Zur Eurer Information, gibt's die aktuelle Version des VCDEasy 1.1.6 nicht mehr umsonst, sondern als Shareware. Selbst die Version 1.1.5 hat einen Zeitlimit drinnen, der eigentlich die Benutzer warnen und hinweisen sollte, dem Autor dieses Programms ein wenig Geld zu spenden für seine Aktivitäten.
Die letzte kostenlose Version ohne Zeitbeschränkung ist die 1.1.4.

Nachfolgend sind die letzten zwei Meldungen hier wiedergegeben:

Yes, I put 3 months ago an expiration date into VCDEasy (21st of June). Why ? To make users who paid to have VCDEasy 1.1.5 (or previous version) realize that they are victim of a rip off from companies selling illegally a (or some) freeware. This was the purpose of the "VCDEasy has always been free, you should never pay to have it" in the expiration message. As you may know (or may not...) there are several commercial DVD backup packages which are in fact copies of some freeware and poor quality guides.
Initially, this expiration was just for a way to warn many users. I put no complexe code to check this expiration. Simply set your computer's clock to a date before the 21srt of June 2003 when you run VCDEasy 1.1.5, it will then work.
But at the same time, it is more and more difficult for me to continue with VCDEasy because of the too few donations I am receiving, and the more and more traffic I have to face on www.vcdeasy.org. Motivation was also decreasing (the ratio 880145 installations/5 donations did not help)... Such is life... But I really would like to keep VCDEasy alive. So I finally decided (at the beginning of June) to wait for this expiration date to see if the situation about donations is changing or not (see my the message "Some bad news..." below), in order to take a decision about staying freeware or going shareware... No change...
So yes, I changed my mind, the "you should never pay to have it" is no more true. VCDEasy (since 1.1.6) is now shareware.
I know, this is a bad news for lots of users... But, if VCDEasy as shareware works, I will be able to make VCDEasy a really great product (I will be able, for example, to buy source codes quicker: Burning code, ASPI, MPEG2 codec,... ), and finally, I hope, after 1 or 2 years going in back to freeware for ever. This will also simply motivates me again.
So it now exists two VCDEasy 1.1.6 versions:
VCDEasy 1.1.6 Free Limited version (it has some features disabled and some nag screens)
VCDEasy 1.1.6 Commercial version (full version, no limitations)
Users can buy the commercial version on the ShareIT! web site, at http:// www.shareit.com/product.html?productid=183762. See the "Buy Now!" page.
Of course, all the current (until yesterday in fact) donors (and the translators) will have the commercial version for free, and for life, whatever they donated! This is a way for me to really thanks all the donors, they really helped me. All donors... so the ones who sent me $0.10 will be very happy! I also hope this behavior will motivate some users to make donations to some freeware they like (Internet is no more free at all, even if you give things for free...)
You can create VideoCDs with this 1.1.6 limited version. The limitations are:
You can save projects but not reload them
No more than 5 MPEG Pictures and 2 MPEG Video (instead of 1980 Pictures and 99 Video Max)
No files bigger than 400 MB
Burn at 2x max
No "Execute an (S)VCD XML file" in the tools
No "Burn a CUE or TOC CD Image" in the tools
The batch mode of the MPEG Stills creation has some nag screens
Expires on the 26th of September 2003
IMPORTANT: if you have troubles with VCDEasy 1.1.6 (free limited version), it won't be improved/solved in using VCDEasy 1.1.6 commercial version.

Auf der einen Seite schade, aber bei derunaufhaltsam kommenden DVD wird sich dieses Proggi sowieso in der nächsten Zeit verabschieden. Zu Empfehlen ist das Proggi aber dennoch. Ich habe kein anders gefunden, welches so gut funktioniert.

So ist das.
Andererseits wäre doch denkbar, daß der Autor sich auch an die DVD ranmacht, denn vergleichbares wie vcdimager, gibt's entweder schon oder ist garantiert in der Mache.... Dann wäre schade, wenn's auch nicht mehr Freeware wird.

Und wer auch nur 10 Cent gespendet (Donated) hat, bekommt eine unlimited Version.
Das waren aber nur 5 von 170.000 Downloadern.
Da kann ich verstehen, warum der Autor auf Shareware geht.
SHH hat es ja ebenso gemacht, weil die Spenden gelinde gesagt fast Null waren.

Nun ja, wenn der Author in der gleichen Qualität wie bisher noch DVD-Authoring hinzufügt, dann sollten die 15 Euro kein Problem darstellen. Oder?

This is and will stay the last freeware version of VCDEasy. It is the same version as VCDEasy 1.1.5, but with no expiration and no donate links.

Wer keine 15 Euro für ein Programm locker machen möchte, das er wirklich nutzt, der tut mir leid. Das sind wahrscheinlich die gleichen Leute, die auch im Lokal kein Trinkgeld geben.
Bei 150 Euro überlegt man sicher mal genauer. Aber 15 Euro, das ist für ein nützliches kostenpflichtiges Programm doch schon fast geschenkt.  |
