Memorex has announced another new 8x DVD±RW drive. Unlike their 8x Dual-X drive, the True 8X offers 8x DVD+R and DVD-R writing speeds.

Featuring true 8X burning for the first time in retail, Memorex leads the industry in offering the most complete dual format DVD drive featuring the fastest speeds, precision recording technologies and the market's most comprehensive software bundle. With the launch of its new True 8X, Memorex goes beyond existing 8X recorders to deliver true 8X write speeds on both DVD+R and DVD-R discs.

Existing competitor 8X DVD drives use a process commonly known as "overburn" to stretch 4X technology and 4X media limits. This process pushes the power of the drive's laser to its limits through firmware modification, bypassing the specified tolerance levels of the hardware components to deliver 8X DVD recording.

The True 8X also features 4x DVD+RW and DVD-RW writing speeds as well as a maximum DVD read speed of 12x. Memorex's new drive will ship sometime in January and will have a suggested retail price of $249.99.

ich finds gut so viel exportieren wir eh nicht nach usa..... das meiste geht nach europa.

Taiwan’s top three producers of optical discs – Ritek, CMC Magnetics and Prodisc Technology – have started or will soon start production of 8x DVD+R/-R discs, according to the companies.

The companies have been poised for volume production of 8x DVD+R/-R discs for some time, but 8x DVD+R/-R burners only became available late last month. Ritek and CMC Magnetics have just commenced production of 8x DVD+R/-R discs in small volumes and Prodisc will do so later this month.

The three makers currently focus on production of 4x DVD+R/-R discs. This month, Ritek, CMC Magnetics and Prodisc estimate that their shipments of 8x models will account for nearly 10%, 10-20% and up to 30%, respectively, of their total delivery volumes of DVD+R/-R discs.
