Sorry i speak english.. hope you can help me.
I have done some recording with s SONY DV handican and now i want to convert this recording to a DVD or SVCD.
I tryed to export the CAMERA data to my computer but there is a very big AVI file. How can I take the data in MPEG format directly to my computer.. is there a way and software to do this??
Also How can i edit my re3cordings. I know about Adobe premiere but its a kind of difficult for newstarters like me.
Can you explain to me what is the best option i have to take my recording from the camera cassete and then edit and then record it in a CD or DVD?
Many thanks! |

the best way is, to capture your footage in avi-file format. After that you have to edit it ( for example with Adobe Premiere ) and export it as a mpeg-file. There are a couple of encoders avaliable - for the beginning try the Adobe-encoder or take a look at -> Tmpgenc
For to capture directly to mpeg you´ll need a hardware-encoder like this or that. But editing the mpeg-stream isn´t quite easy and not as good quality as editing the avi-files.
Some "basic" editing-tools are for example Studio8, Video Studio, and so on....

I think, Animal Mother is very right to state, that first of all you should use a video editing tool, to cut your material as you want it.
To bring your videos to the pc, you should transfer them with a firewire-card and firewire cable, and edit them with a DV-avi template (PAL oder NTSC, depending on the system you work with).
Good video editing tools has been named here - uleads videostudio or magix video are fine. Or you can also thing about to use the more professional Uleads Mediastudio, or Adobe Premiere. If you like english spoken tools, Vegas-4 should be fine for you too.
Generally spoken, you tansfer the video from the camcorder to the pc - cut it within DV-avi - and then "encode" the cutted video to mepg-2 (using an encoder; most of the tools have now a day encoders incorporated, but quality of the encoders is different).
Depends on the pc you have (P4 is fine, a second harddisk is great too), you could think about to purchase product bundles that are great to start with. One great bundle is the Guillemet DV action pro, here you get a Jogshuttle, a firewire card and cable, and the light version of Uleads Mediastudio 6.5 SE - what is a great package for this price!
Link to retailer
Or you start to download demo versions to test some software tools - on the www.ulead.co.uk you find free trials for both uleads videostudio 7 and uleads mediastudio 7 Pro.
On the sony side you find a free trial of Vegas-4, too.

Assuming you are a "beginner" with this the best way to get a quick result is to use an easy to use and understand SW-solution.
In general to edit your recordings you need to do this in AVI-format (Mpeg editing is not comfortable); so you need to work with the big AVI-file.
So use a demo version of Ulead Movie Factory (download from Ulead site) to capture your recordings and edit them. MF will then convert the AVI to MPEG for SVCD or DVD and will burn your disk.
Later on, when you are more familar with the theme you can choose Programs like Premiere, TMPEG, Media Studio or Vegas. But for a beginner i would suggest you start with a "selfexplanating" solution. |

Ahh, again the old discussion if it is better to start with a well developed cutting tools as beginner, or to start with the semi-professional tools immediately.
Here we have different opinions, as I know well from the past discussions - where I tend to recommend also a beginner to start with a semi-professional tool (but to be aware of more training need and maybe the need for an additional introduction).
However, you should try to find out what is best for you - and trials are for free (beside the costs for downlaod, what can be significant without an adsl connection). _________________ Gruß,

Howdy !
Well lets differenciate :
- If you want to learn this as a Hobby and are willing to invest some time and some money. Go Wolgangs way.
- If you just want fast solutions and not invest a lot of time.
Go HolgerS' way.
Both ways leed to a solution, may be not the solution you want.
And especially , perhaps , not the solution in the long run.
So :
If you want it quick and dirty and forget it afterwards use the easiest program, you can get.
If you want to evaluate a very interesting hobby and want to invest a lot of time, start with a "more" "professional" aproach. _________________ Gruß BergH |

Zitat: | ROFL ...... let the cowboy ride HIS pony ..... |
I always let the cowboy ride his hourse - but there is still his desire to help him to decide what is the best pony for him.
And the best approach is to try different tools by using free download trials - and play with them.
Even if I tend to agree with bergH:
- if you are willing to spend more time and money - but looking on the other hand for extraordinary results - semi-professional tools like Mediastudio, Premiere or Vegas;
- if you are looking for fast and easy solutions - without extraordinary specials - go for tools like Uleads Videostudio 7 or Magix video.
PS: take care for Premiere Pro a little bit, it has significant requirements in terms of PC performance.

hehehehe ...... funny !
all i wanted to say is: tools like MF/Studio8 (only to mention 2 of them) are appetizers and if the taste is good you are getting hungry may be for more/a new hobby .....
May be you just want to know how late it is, not how a clock is working inside ......
Better i stop here  |

@Cowboy
The last 2-3 Posts are just a discussion about the capability of some users to explain Video in english.
It has nothing to do with your question, so I do not translate it.
@Wolgang
Yes working in a company where english is the company language helps a lot.
Especially when you are talking to french, dutch, spanish and other European folks.
The most idiotic talk I had was a 2 hour discussion in english with : 4 germans, 2 Austrians and 1 (German speaking) guy from switzerland.
After a while somebody start to talk in German and was lokked at , as if he were an Id***. Great laugh afterwards. _________________ Gruß BergH |

The most idiotic talks I have seen place took place when you had a mixture beween nativ speaker and non-nativ speaker.
I saw that during discussions when building up a GSM network for a mobile operator - and when expatriates from UK, Denmark und Norway met for the question, how to plan and design the technical network.
Typically, such a situation is won by the native speaker - simply because his English is best; must not mean, that he is always right - for sure not. But the idiotic point is that he wins, simply because his English is better (or a slang that nobody else understandes, what is true for some US-guys mainly). _________________ Gruß,

Seems to be that you never have discussed with a guy from Texas...
... but with slang most of us non-nativ speaker will fail to understand everything. _________________ Gruß,
