HI,

Thanks for all your replies.

It will help a lot!! but i still cant manage the big file.

Basicaly I went to a marriage and made 3 tapes of 90 minutes each.

I have a laptop computer with 18.5 GB in each drive C and D. The amount of video to be tranfereed is enormous and I cant fit it to the HD:)... so I dont know what to do really..

I am using now a very simple program the Windows Media Movie maker that is straight forward. I have adobe premiere in the computer the LE edition but it is difficult for me when i just have 3 days to edit it!!

This a present to the recently maried couple. I know i will have to make a very basic video, and i know i cant do many fancy effects.

I wanted to include music and other effects but I see that just to edit is very difficult already to handle with so many data!!!!

Any ideas to make this easier??

Thanks

If you have 270 Min Video to edit as a newbie in 3 days ..... forget it.

First you need a big harddisk, DV-Video takes around 13 GB per hour space and of course some reserves.

To get a quick (and dirty result) i would suggest, that you borrow from a friend a DVD standalone recorder and copy your DV scenes to a DVD. Ideal would be a Panasonic DMR HS 2. There you can choose a plalist of your favorite scenes and just copy them.

If you want to work with underlaying music, effects, slides etc. you need definitely more time to get familar with this.

One solution to do on a PC the cutting work is probably a program called MUVEE (i have no clue if it works really and not tested it by myself). This program does all automatically, there should be a demo on the Web. Just have a look.

You will definitvely need another harddisk - either an internal one, I recommend you to take a 160 GB disk; or an external one, in an usb 2.0 case.

3 days - no change to learn AP in 3 days! That is bullshit, what forces you to do that in 3 days?? Do not bring yourself into such a stress - that is not helpful. Do you have a friend that is experienced with video editing - ask him for help!

Sorry to state that, but I think you should not follow a recommendation of Holger that he has not testet by himself.

Foreget the windows media movie maker for such a project, that will not work out too.

You could try to use AP, sure - but go in the next bookstore and buy a short introduction to the tool. The time you spend to read such a small book is a good investement. And if it is AP really, there is the issue that AP does not have an automatic split up to the clips - but for that purpose use that tool:

http://www.scenalyzer.com/d/main.html

It is a capture tool but not for free, but it takes the clips and separates that into small files, one file for each clip - that you can use in an ideal way to sort the material in the storyboard. That speeds your work up significantly.

If you wish to use another simplified video editing tool - try uleads videostudio. That is tested and works fine, and has a simplified surface that is helpfull. For DV-avi, it is also able to split up the material to the single clips. I can recommend that too, since I have worked with the uleads products long enough. But also here you will need some time to become familiar with the tool.

If you have furthre questions, please feel free to ask here - but reserve some time, and be prepared for some traps you will fall into when doing that for the first time - Jesus, and that for 4.5 hour original-material!

HEY!!!

I did the impossible!! I have almoust my full movie in Windows movie Maker.

Now I have a question for you that can help me...

Windows Movie Maker just allows conversion to WMV files. How can i convert this to SVCD or even to VCD???

Any ideas how can i achieve this and try to fit in 1 or 2 CDRs?

Thanks!!!

I have to state that I love it, if everything what has been written here is ignored consequently. There was a reason why we had recommended you to use dv-avi - to ensure a good quality. How that will be with wmv, what is a format with high compression designed for internet web pages - you will see. Depends on the settings, I assume.

Use an encoder like TMPGenc, what has nice templates for SVCD (if TMPEenc can import wmv files, what I do not know).

The issue is more to work in wmv, instead of dv-avi - I hope for you that you will not become frustrated by the quality limitations you may face.

Sure, AP is complex too. But we have also mentioned other tools that could be helpful.

However, it is your video, isn´t it? Means, you have the freedom to produce it however you like it.

Hi everyone!!

Just to let you all know that I did finaly my VCD!! I got a week extra to do the video and followed your recomendations.

I used a bit of all programs but to make the video i used VIDEOSTUDIO 7 from Ulead systems. Very handy software!!

What I did was i took the movie from my camera with Windows Movie Maker and cut it there in litle pieces that I wanted and export it in AVI files. Then I opened the VIdeoStudio 7 and edited all of the video, with sound and text efects and all that.

The result is incredible and everyone likes it because it have memory moments from a mariage that will be hard to be forgotten at least with the Video I made they can revise it in some years.

Some people more critic told me that the quality was a bit poor, but I knew it from the beguinning becauseconverting the AVI file to MPEG1 is always like that. But overal everyone is very happy. I might make now a DVD with full quality one day when I have more time.

I thank you Wolfgang and everyone that helped me doing this video.

Thanks!!!

Cowboy

Hope you had fund and a nice time - and I hope that you will continue to cut videos - maybe in the future with another tool? If so, see you maybe in the Vegas forum, www.vegasvideo.de?
